Hello everyone! With a new week, comes a new book! The book I am brining you today is actually a virtual e-book through the iPad. Stories of Key: Kye from Galloway, by Andra De Bondt, is about a royal cat named Kye. That’s right, you read that right, a royal cat, that lives in a palace with his family in Galloway castle in a kingdom called Faraway. In this story, Kye must get the help of his friend, Princess Butterfly, in order to receive some magical boots that will help him. But with only so much time till the boots disappear, will Princess Butterfly get them in time? Read it to find out and see! :)

Honestly, when I heard that this book was an iPad 3-D book, I was very curious about it. I have never read or seen a virtual 3-D book, so I was anxious to check it out. All I can say was that it didn’t disappoint; in fact, it was actually really cool. Whenever you would tilt the screen of the iPad, you could definitely see the 3-D effect that it had with the story. Not only that, but this story has an option narration option, in case you just want to sit back and enjoy the book. The illustrations, also done by Andra De Bondt, were very interesting to me when I first saw them. As I kept reading and turning the pages on my iPad though, the more creative the illustrations were to me. They were a mix of what looked like hand drawn and colored images, mixed with real looking backgrounds. It just made the story pop, especially with the 3-D effect of it all. This book is and exclusive 3-D book for the iPad. In order to view and read the book, you go to the iTunes app store and download the app, and then open it and enjoy. The book is also available through Amazon as well, for all you Kindle readers out there. I don’t think the Kindle has the option to view it as 3-D however.

I was really impressed with this book. I’m not one to ever judge a book by it’s cover, however, lets just say this one far exceeded my expectations of it. The creative story of Kye and his adventures, along with the effects, illustration, and work that went into making this iPad app book, is definitely worth a read. Want to know the best part about this book on the iTunes app store? It’s FREE! Seriously, I have had great luck in reviewing books that are free to the readers lately and let me tell you, if you want a different kind of children’s book experience, take the time to look at this.

It doesn’t end here, Kye continues with his adventures in two other book apps in the iTunes store. Those are also only $0.99 each. So have an iPad? Kids? Or maybe just an adult with a kid lit fetish like myself? Check this one out for sure! It’s definitely on my “read again” list. :)

Hello all! I am excited to be back on here, bringing you more books to share with you! With that being said, what better way to ring out a new year on Storytime Books than to show you all a book that’s filled with magic and fun. Little Rockin’ Roger and the Magic Glass Guitar, by Benjamin Moores, is about a young boy named Roger and his newly discovered magic guitar. After moving into a new house with his mom, he is unsure about the house he moves into; until one day he hears music coming from the attic. After going into the attic one day, he stumbles across a beautiful glass guitar and starts playing with it. Once he starts, he notices that amazing magic and sound come from the guitar. After sitting and rockin’ with the music that the guitar brings, the sound fades from the guitar. After that experience, he can’t wait to show his mother this beautiful magic guitar he found that turns him from regular little Roger…to Little Rockin’ Roger.

When I first looked at this book, I thought it would be a little silly, magic guitars and all. However, I actually was really surprised by this book and how creative it is. The book is viewable through iTunes, and is also narrated along with sounds that go along with the book. So whether you want to read this book to your child, or just listen and look along, this is a great book for any parent and child together. The thing that also really caught my eyes throughout the whole book was the wonderful use of color in the illustrations, done by Valerie Bouthyette. When you first look at the illustrations, it just looks like a colored pencil type look to it; however, I was very impressed with the use of color in it to portray certain scenes and images. Especially the colors that portrayed the magic glass guitar. Valerie used a perfect rainbow concept to create a perfect image of a little boy’s fantasy come to life.

My only disappointment in this book? Well, there really wasn’t anything, except the end will leave you hanging wanting more! There is a hint at the end of a book saying there could be a sequel book, and I definitely think there should be. By the end of the book everyone will be wanting to know what happens with Little Rockin’ Roger…does he become a rock star with that magic guitar? Does he keep it secret, except to his mom? Only a possible sequel book could answer that question. :)

So if you are looking for a good book to view on the iPad with your kids, this would be a great one. The best part? Right now, the book is FREE! So why wouldn’t you want to get copy of this book? It’s absolutely adorable in my opinion. :)

I am excited to bring you a cute book today that really makes the story come to life. The Adventures of Lovable Lobo: Lobo Finds Bigfoot, by C.L. Murphy, is about a wolf named Lobo and his little bird friend Roxy. They have many adventures, but today, they discover their adventure in the forrest. While in the forrest, they start to smell different things in the forrest, from flowers to pine trees to…something else. As they continue their way to find out what the other smell is, they discover it’s the smell of a little brown creature named Squatchy, who is a Bigfoot. I won’t spoil the story, but I will say that Squatchy has a great surprise in store for Lobo and Roxy, and it’s one adventure that Lobo and Roxy won’t forget.

This book is a great one for kids because it is an interactive storybook. As you start the story, it shows you different hidden objects that you can find throughout the book; it also has narrative voices in the story that kids will love. The book also contains sounds for different creatures and animals that appear throughout the story, which in my opinion, is brilliant, because children will feel like they are in the story scene itself. The illustrations in the story, also done by C.L. Murphy, are filled with colorful backgrounds that will make each page and scene come to life instantly.

If you are looking for a great children’s book that you can read to your children on your iPad that’s filled with fun, then I would highly recommend you check out this cute book on iBooks. You’ll find yourself wanting to go on more adventures with Lobo and his friends. :)

I was able to do an author interview with C.L. Murphy herself! Get to know her in the interview below. Enjoy!

Author Interview with C.L. Murphy

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to some pretty wonderful people who both encourage and support me. I was a stay at home mom who volunteered regularly at my son’s schools and while doing so came up with many picture book ideas, but my background is in design. I find the way that young children think just glorious! Once my boys went off to college I took my stories to the next level. I’ve wanted to publish a book since before 1989 and I have the guide Children’s Writes & Illustrator’s Market to prove it. Time flew by so fast! I guess you could say that my first book took 24 years to finish!

What do you do when you are not writing?

When i’m not illustrating and writing Lovable Lobo, I’m cooking, gardening and caring for our animal menagerie and all while keeping the fairies happy in our enchanted forest. I’m also a field editor for a cooking magazine. Creating is my passion! I become a bit obsessed when working on my projects and everything else takes a back burner.

What inspired you to write your first book?

I didn’t have to look any further than my own backyard for the inspiration of The Adventure of Lovable Lobo. I have raised a wolf for the last 13 years and witnessed the reluctancy from those that meet him because of the way he looks…like a wolf. Wolves have been portrayed so negatively and continue to be stereotyped by so many as vicious predators. Sure, they efficiently hunt to care for their family, but what caring creature doesn’t do what they need to do to survive? The subject is quite controversial. Wolves are magnificent creatures. That being said, I believe that wolves belong in the wild and should not be kept as pets. My situation is a special one and I am committed to the care of my wolf and will treasure his remaining days.

Where do you get your ideas?

My ideas come from the little voices in my head, that are constantly coming up with new things! It’s difficult to keep up with them! It’s both a curse and a blessing to have such an over active imagination.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?

My books are created for the pure entertainment and enjoyment of young children. The little wolf pup character, Lobo, is sweet, wouldn’t hurt a flea and happens to think he is vegetarian, because he doesn’t like the taste of meat. He tries to be true to himself, and seems oblivious to the fact that some may be fearful of and prejudge him. I hope that readers are encouraged to eat healthily from the character, because they’ll see that Lobo likes his fruits and greens. The stories take place outdoors, and that will hopefully inspire readers to spend more time outside and to appreciate what nature has to offer, as was instilled in me at an early age.

What books have most influenced your life most?

Oh my! I’d have to say ALL the picture books I have ever read. That’s a boat load! I have always been a fan of picture books, and was so sad when my boys grew out of them, because I never did or will.

Do you have any advice for other writers?I do, especially for those that choose to self publish! Persevere and don’t give up! Start establishing yourself in social media, create a website, and build a supportive community both online and locally WELL before you release your book. I was fortunate that my first book was featured on the on the iBookstore’s bookshelf for the first 6 months and that helped sales considerably. Fore me, it isn’t just about the sales I’m having the time of my life! Marketing demands so much of your time that you need to have a plan. I’m still learning from my many mistakes, but what a journey!

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I’d like to invite them to follow Lovable Lobo in his adventures. I have many more adventures planned, the next to be released in November 2013 where Lobo heads to the North Pole. Can you howl Ho Ho Ho?
