I am excited to bring you a cute book today that really makes the story come to life. The Adventures of Lovable Lobo: Lobo Finds Bigfoot, by C.L. Murphy, is about a wolf named Lobo and his little bird friend Roxy. They have many adventures, but today, they discover their adventure in the forrest. While in the forrest, they start to smell different things in the forrest, from flowers to pine trees to…something else. As they continue their way to find out what the other smell is, they discover it’s the smell of a little brown creature named Squatchy, who is a Bigfoot. I won’t spoil the story, but I will say that Squatchy has a great surprise in store for Lobo and Roxy, and it’s one adventure that Lobo and Roxy won’t forget.

This book is a great one for kids because it is an interactive storybook. As you start the story, it shows you different hidden objects that you can find throughout the book; it also has narrative voices in the story that kids will love. The book also contains sounds for different creatures and animals that appear throughout the story, which in my opinion, is brilliant, because children will feel like they are in the story scene itself. The illustrations in the story, also done by C.L. Murphy, are filled with colorful backgrounds that will make each page and scene come to life instantly.

If you are looking for a great children’s book that you can read to your children on your iPad that’s filled with fun, then I would highly recommend you check out this cute book on iBooks. You’ll find yourself wanting to go on more adventures with Lobo and his friends. :)

I was able to do an author interview with C.L. Murphy herself! Get to know her in the interview below. Enjoy!

Author Interview with C.L. Murphy

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to some pretty wonderful people who both encourage and support me. I was a stay at home mom who volunteered regularly at my son’s schools and while doing so came up with many picture book ideas, but my background is in design. I find the way that young children think just glorious! Once my boys went off to college I took my stories to the next level. I’ve wanted to publish a book since before 1989 and I have the guide Children’s Writes & Illustrator’s Market to prove it. Time flew by so fast! I guess you could say that my first book took 24 years to finish!

What do you do when you are not writing?

When i’m not illustrating and writing Lovable Lobo, I’m cooking, gardening and caring for our animal menagerie and all while keeping the fairies happy in our enchanted forest. I’m also a field editor for a cooking magazine. Creating is my passion! I become a bit obsessed when working on my projects and everything else takes a back burner.

What inspired you to write your first book?

I didn’t have to look any further than my own backyard for the inspiration of The Adventure of Lovable Lobo. I have raised a wolf for the last 13 years and witnessed the reluctancy from those that meet him because of the way he looks…like a wolf. Wolves have been portrayed so negatively and continue to be stereotyped by so many as vicious predators. Sure, they efficiently hunt to care for their family, but what caring creature doesn’t do what they need to do to survive? The subject is quite controversial. Wolves are magnificent creatures. That being said, I believe that wolves belong in the wild and should not be kept as pets. My situation is a special one and I am committed to the care of my wolf and will treasure his remaining days.

Where do you get your ideas?

My ideas come from the little voices in my head, that are constantly coming up with new things! It’s difficult to keep up with them! It’s both a curse and a blessing to have such an over active imagination.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?

My books are created for the pure entertainment and enjoyment of young children. The little wolf pup character, Lobo, is sweet, wouldn’t hurt a flea and happens to think he is vegetarian, because he doesn’t like the taste of meat. He tries to be true to himself, and seems oblivious to the fact that some may be fearful of and prejudge him. I hope that readers are encouraged to eat healthily from the character, because they’ll see that Lobo likes his fruits and greens. The stories take place outdoors, and that will hopefully inspire readers to spend more time outside and to appreciate what nature has to offer, as was instilled in me at an early age.

What books have most influenced your life most?

Oh my! I’d have to say ALL the picture books I have ever read. That’s a boat load! I have always been a fan of picture books, and was so sad when my boys grew out of them, because I never did or will.

Do you have any advice for other writers?I do, especially for those that choose to self publish! Persevere and don’t give up! Start establishing yourself in social media, create a website, and build a supportive community both online and locally WELL before you release your book. I was fortunate that my first book was featured on the on the iBookstore’s bookshelf for the first 6 months and that helped sales considerably. Fore me, it isn’t just about the sales I’m having the time of my life! Marketing demands so much of your time that you need to have a plan. I’m still learning from my many mistakes, but what a journey!

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I’d like to invite them to follow Lovable Lobo in his adventures. I have many more adventures planned, the next to be released in November 2013 where Lobo heads to the North Pole. Can you howl Ho Ho Ho?

If you have ever wanted a good beginning counting book for your toddler/child, then you’ll want to check out this book I am featuring today. One Gorilla: A Counting Book, by Anthony Browne, is a picture book that takes counting to very colorful heights. The book goes through a series primates, and states what the animal is and then it shows how many animals are in the picture. While this book may sound very simple wording wise, it is the illustrations that make it fun. The beautiful and captivating colors that Browne puts into this book will have children wanting to count over and over with the different kind of primates. This is a perfect book if you are trying to teach your child how to count, and how to read beggining words and stories.

Kristi Elle Jemtegaard from the Washington Post says “It is difficult — possibly impossible — to remember a recent counting book that has clambered up out of the slough of “useful” into the rarefied strata of “stunning” and “memorable.” Hats off to Anthony Browne for creating “One Gorilla.” Set against stark white backgrounds, the inhabitants of each page function exactly as objects in a counting book are required to do: 1 gorilla gives way to 2 orangutans, 3 chimpanzees and so on up to 10 lemurs. Stripped of their natural habitats and artfully grouped, they are extraordinarily easy to count. The numerals that appear on each left-hand page are big, bold and colorful, standard components that reinforce the book’s utilitarian status.”

So if you are looking for a great counting book that will capture your children’s imagination as they learn, I’d highly recommend this book. You will find them wanting to count with the story over and over again.
