This next book I am about to share with you is a dog-on cute one! Adventures with Buster, by London Lake Pickett, is about a guide dog named Buster and his owner London. London is blind in her left eye, and has limited vision in her right eye. To help her out, she set off on a journey to Southeastern Guide Dogs, in Florida, to find a great guide dog to help her. There, she meets a black “Goldador” (Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever) named Buster. From there, they start to train together. Buster learns how he can help London in guiding her, and London learns about how to take care of Buster. After their training, they start a series of adventures together. From plane rides, to chasing rabbits, to visiting schools, the fun filled adventures of London and Buster never end.
This book is great for children because it really shows the life of a guide dog and how important they are to people. It also teaches children important things about guide dogs. One of the best things about this story is that it is a true story! This book does resemble a small chapter book and is perfect for any child who is learning how to read chapter books. Although it is in that form, it is very much a picture book as well since it does provide beautiful real life illustrations done by, Lynda Farrington Wilson. The colors in these illustrations are brightly colored and bring Buster to life. Children will be laughing and learning with Buster the guide dog.
So if you are looking for an excellent book that will not only bring great learning value, but lots of laughs, I would highly recommend this book.
