In honor of Veteran’s Day today, I have decided to share a book with you all that I recently found. The book is called Hero Dad by Melinda Hardin. In this book, a young boy describes page by page about how his dad is a superhero. He describes how his dad doesn’t have the typical superhero powers, but how he has others. How he “doesn’t have a sidekick, he has a platoon.” From the detailed illustrations, done by Bryan Langdo, you can easily tell that his father is serving his country in the army. This book is such a great book for children who have a loved one that is away serving their country. It really shows the appreciation to all who have served our country in years past, present and future. Kirkus reviews says “An important message, delivered with effective straightforwardness and an abundance of heart.” To all our Veterans, and current friends and family members serving our country, this would be a great book for you and your family. As it would be to anyone who appreciates all who serve for us. Because they truly are heroes, and not just any kind of hero…a superhero. I absolutely loved this book, it will be one that I will for sure be reading again soon.

  1. This looks like such a good book. I’ve found so many books about how great moms are (and believe me, I appreciate those) but not a lot of books about dads. I think this’ll be a great one for my husband and son to read together!
