Lately I have been getting many great suggestions on books to blog about and i’m excited to share this one with you all today. The book is called Skippyjon Jones by Judy Schachner. It’s about a siamese cat with giant ears that make him look more like a chihuahua. It is then that Skippyjon Jones decides that he is more chihuahua than siamese and his imagination takes him on a great journey. This book is great because it teaches children that your imagination can take you anywhere. To me, it is a book of hope, that you can be anything you want to be, despite what others think you should be. The possibilities are endless. The fun illustrations, which are also done by Judy Schachner, are filled with fun color and really brings the story to life. The text also changes shapes and sizes to help emphasize what is happening throughout the book. Shara Lawrence-Weiss from earlychildhoodnews.net says “The writing is extremely clever, witty and full of character. Skippyjon thinks outside the box – something my daughter is quite familiar with. She is no follower and neither is Skippyjon.” This book has also won many awards, including the E.B. White Read Aloud Award, by The Association of Booksellers for Children, The New Hampshire State Library’s 2005 Ladybug Picture Book Award and many more (Info from wikepedia.com). It doesn’t end here, Skippyjon Jones is the first of many series of books that take him on great adventures. So go check them out, I know I will be blogging again on these series of books.
